TMJ or Temporomandibular Joint Syndrome is a condition which affects the function and movement of your jaw. A well known cause of TMJ Syndrome is Teeth Grinding (Bruxism) which can have several causes ranging from stress and anxiety to malocclusion. Patients who grind their teeth often are unaware as it can be a habit which occurs during sleep.

Symptoms of TMJ may be:

  • Jaw clicking and popping
  • Stiff or sore jaw muscles
  • Locking of the jaw joint
  • Ear pain
  • Headaches
  • Pain in the temple area

Custom appliances can be made to prevent clenching of your teeth to reduce the harmful effects of teeth grinding or jaw clenching. Alternatively, Botox injections can be used to relax and control the muscle tension in the Temporomandibular Joint.
